Stop and Smell the Roses!

Driving home from dinner last night we came upon a massive amount of flashing lights and sirens. There was a terrible car accident that had happened minutes before.  I later learned that there was a fatality involved. A local woman lost her life in a split second.  It really made me stop and reflect on life and how fragile it really is.  We are only here for a short time and it can be over in a flash.  I realized that I need to stop taking things so serious.  I don’t need to worry about how clean my house is or better yet what people might think if it’s not clean.  Time flies, life flies and if we are not careful we will fly right through it.

God tells us in the bible how fast our lives are going by.   God says to you and I, SLOW DOWN.  We are to focus on important things, not minute things that cause us unneeded stress.  We need to spend time thinking about how we spend our time.  James 4:14-15 say, “Why, you do not know what will happen tomorrow.  What is your life?  You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  Instead, you ought to say , if it is the Lords will, we will live and do this or that.  Reading that verse I had to stop and reflect…What is my this or that?  I often spend more time focusing on work, clients, social media etc….  Instead I should be more focused on my family and more importantly quiet time with our Lord and Savior.

Life is a vapor.  These past few weeks so many of my close friends and family have suffered great loss and sickness.  It is a reminder of how precious life is and how things can change in an instant.  Sometimes we get so caught up with the world we forget what is really important and what isn’t.   Romans 12:2 says, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.  That is what I want for my life….Gods will, his good, pleasing and perfect will.

We need to find peace and rest.  The bible places high values on rest and peaceful living.  Jesus himself often had to escape the business to renew his strength.  Mark 6:31 says, Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”  We should take time off, relax, spend time with our family and spend time in prayer.  We all need to stop and smell the roses from time to time. Life is a precious..Here today, gone tomorrow. Life is too short to waste doing nothing, make everyday count.  We never know when God will call us home.  Cherish every moment you have with loved ones and never regret anything . Look at every day as a present waiting to be opened and be thankful that God has given you the gift of another day.

Stop thinking about how stressed you are and think about how blessed you are!!!!
